Whey Protein Isolate
Whey Isolates are commonly presented & sold as Formulated Supplementary Sports Foods in New Zealand - Whey Protein Isolate or WPI is another protein derived from milk but has been processed to contain very little to no fat, carbohydrates, lactose and cholesterol. One of the most widely use protein powders on the market for athletes, bodybuilders and other trainers, whey protein is excellent for those wanting lean muscle growth and improved recovery While Whey Protein Concentrates contain around 60-80% protein, Whey Protein Isolates can contain in upwards of 87% protein, which means more protein and less unnecessary extras.
Protein is a much needed nutrient for those wanting to maintain and gain muscle mass. Each person requires a slightly different amount of protein per day with those who exercise often requiring slightly more. Whey Protein Isolate is an extremely convenient way to quickly boost the amount of protein in your diet and during times when your body needs that protein most. As previously mentioned, Whey Protein Isolate is processed and usually via two main methods. Ion Exchange Filtration and Ultra/Micro Filtration. The first method involves the use of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide to help purify the whey protein. This method, whilst resulting in less fat and lactose in the final product can also degrade some of the amino acids and nutrient content. The latter method used semi-permeable membranes to process the protein. While this process avoids damaging the proteins and nutrients in the final product, there can be a slightly higher amount of lactose and fat, which some people try to avoid. Hydrolysed Whey Protein Isolate is another form of Whey Protein Isolate which has been broken down even further to create smaller di- and tri-peptides, which are much easier to absorb and are able to quickly flush our muscles with the important amino acids it needs to recover and grow.
Whey Protein Isolate has an extremely high biological value and is easily digested and absorbed . It also contains a strong nutrient profile with plenty of branched chain amino acids and other essential amino acids required for muscle protein synthesis. Whey Protein Isolate supplementation has also been shown to positively affect the immune system and help increase glutathione levels in the body, an important antioxidant. Since athletes, bodybuilders and frequent trainers tend to have depressed immune systems after training, supplementing with WPI is a great idea to keep them healthy and assist with faster recovery. WPI’s can be consumed before, during and after workouts and combined with other slower acting proteins can be used throughout the day as well. WPIs stack well with most other supplements including other protein powders, fat loss supplements and testosterone or growth hormone boosters.
WPI is not a sole source of nutrition and should be used in conjunction with an appropriate physical training or exercise programme. Not suitable for children under 15 years or pregnant women. Should only be used under medical or dietetic supervision. Always read label prior to use.
