L-Carnitine is an amino acid, the primary transporter of long chain fatty acids through the mitochondrial membrane, where fat is burned to produce energy. High levels of available L-Carnitine increase the rate at which fat is burned.

Mode of Action
L-Carnitine is a beta-hydroxy-gamma-N,N, N-trimethylaminobutyric acid, a trimethylated amino acid, essential for the transport and transformation of fatty acids into energy for muscular activity. This transformation, which produces Co-enzyme A, occurs in the mitochondria.
Most of the 1.2 micromoles of L-Carnitine per kg of body weight per day are synthesized from the essential amino acids lysine and methionine with Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Niacin and Iron.
Only L-Carnitine is biologically active.
Supplementing with L-Carnitine assists natural fat metabolism and muscular performance. If used in this situation it should be discontinued for one week each month
