Musashi ISO8 Lean Muscle WPI Protein
Whey Protein Isolates (WPI) offer an excellent combination of protein quality, an abundance of
branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and very low levels of fat and lactose. They are therefore ideal for
anyone on a High Protein and Low Carb Diet. Musashi WPI contains less carbohydrates and lactose
and is easier to mix than other commercially available WPIs. It is produced by cold microfiltration, which
makes it a superior product to the Ion Exchange varieties. Our WPI is also processed through our
Enhanced Filtration Process (EFP) in our Musashi’s GMP manufacturing facility.
EFP – A Musashi Innovation
Musashi Protein Powder formulations are all filtered using cutting edge technology.
These filtration processes produce final protein compositions which retain
optimum protein purity & quality. The filtered proteins are then enhanced by the
addition of Essential AAs and BCAAs by adding free form amino acids, the
amount of available protein nutrients for recovery is increased, as is the speed of
nutrient delivery to the bloodstream.
The Taste Test
Due to the High Protein Low Carb nature of WPIs, getting the taste right is always a challenge. The
importance of taste, texture and mouth feel is a major priority in this product. The inclusion of latest flavours
and natural emulsifiers has produced a great tasting, creamy product with no bitter aftertaste commonly
associated with protein shakes!
Lactose Sensitivity and Poor Digestion
The low lactose content of WPI is an important consideration for athletes who have insufficient lactase
and / or cannot tolerate lactose.
Superior Absorbability
One of Whey Protein Isolate’s significant advantages over other protein extracts is its absorbability. Musashi WPI, being composed mainly of very short chain proteins - di and tri peptides as well as amino acids -
does not require much in the way of digestion, so enzyme efficiency is increased. This means that the
protein is on its way to your muscle tissue much faster.
BCAAs
Whey proteins contain the highest concentration of BCAAs available from any food source. BCAAs are
unique because they can be utilised very quickly at the muscle site to repair the
breakdown that naturally occurs during lengthy periods of exercise. Musashi WPI
is bolstered with addition of extra free form BCAAs.
Glutamine
Whey Protein Isolate is high in glutamine and unique glutamylcysteine groups that
are considered to be key factors in the glutathione-promoting activity of the
protein mixture. The glutathione (GSH) antioxidant system is the principal
protective mechanism of the cell and is a crucial factor in the development of the immune
response and exercise recovery.
Glycomacropeptides
Glycomacropeptides are unique peptides that are associated with improved gut and immune function.
They have an immunoprotective effect because of complex sugar groups called sialic acids attached to
the whey protein molecules. These sialic acid groups can act as binding sites for toxins and viruses, reducing the extent to which they bind to other cells such as
those in the digestive tract.
Glycomacropeptides may also help calcium absorption and promotion of growth of beneficial Bifido bacteria in the intestine. They also reduce the adhesion of bacterial strains, such as the Streptococcus species, that cause tooth decay to dental surfaces. Glycomacropeptides improve digestion by stimulating
the release of cholecystokinin (CCK) which influences bowel mobility, gastric emptying, pancreatic and
gallbladder function.

Musashi Whey Protein Isolate is a very high quality pure Whey Protein Isolate formula which is rich in protein, and low in carbohydrates and fat.
Whats sets this formula apart from other pure WPI products is its particularly high level of intrinsic branched chain amino acids (BCAA's) and its very low lactose content. This makes it even more suitable for those who are lactose fussy.
WPI Protein is composed mainly of very short chain proteins such as di and tri peptides, in addition to high levels of amino acids. Put simply, this makes it much easier to absorb and quicker to digest (and nourish!) than other protein formulas.
The instantised microfiltered process ensures a very high protein level, while eliminating as many carbohydrates and fats as possible.
Musashi actually fortifies all its protein powders with additional branch chain amino acids. This increase the bio-availability of the proteins and nutrients, in addition to making them perfect post-workout protein powders for bodybuilders, strength building or anyone engaged in anaerobic or resistance training.
Taste and Mixing Test
I've tested this protein in both blenders and shakers, and I can vouch that it mixes very well with both milk and water. Having said that, I can't understand how anyone could enjoy protein powders mixed with water. It seems pretty crazy to go and buy expensive milk by-products and then mix them with water.
Anyway, in New Zealand at least I am currently buying the new Fonterra high protein milk which provides about 10 extra grams of protein per 200ML serve.
So mixing the recommended two rounded scoops of WPI with 200MLS of this milk provides almost 37 grams of muscle fortifying protein per serve. Regular milk would probably make it just over 30 grams of protein per serve, which is arguably the ideal amount for optimum digestion and absorption.
To be honest, I was a little shocked with my first mouthful. It was much, much creamier and tastier than I expected!
I did a double take when I read on the label it contained only half a gram of fat and half a gram of carbs per serve.
Its actually difficult to reconcile the taste with the nutritional information. Does this Musashi WPI really only contain half a gram of fat and carbs per serving? Well thats what the label says, but it sure tastes alot better than that.
Closer inspection of the ingredients reveals that it is artifically sweetened with Sucralose, which at least explains the apparent sweetness.
Being so low in carbs, it makes it the obvious choice for night caps. No need to feel guilty about taking carbs and fats in at night time.
Crushers Conclusion
With just .1 grams of sugar per serve and .2g of saturated fat, this is one serious protein powder. Easy to mix, easy to drink, extra BCAA's and abudant in glutamine, this is a very fine product.
Those looking to bulk up should choose another blend that is higher in both carbs and fats. But you can't really go past this product if you are looking to trim down while increasing muscle mass. Highly recommend, its gets 4 stars out of 5. |
