Iron Mass is the mass gainer protein powder developed along side legend Arnold Schwarzenegger for MusclePharm's Arnold Series. This gainer has a few special qualities that were previously unseen in this product category and promises to be special. Read on to find out why Iron Mass stands out from the rest of the products currently on the market today.

MusclePharm Arnold Series Iron Mass Ingredients

The uniqueness of Iron Mass starts with its Elite Complex Carbohydrates Matrix. This consists of sweet potato powder and barley starch. The protein blend is made up of hydrolysed beef protein and lactoferrin. To round off the macros is the the High Performance Healthy Fats Matrix which contains sunflower oil powder, whipped cream powder, and MCTs. In addition are bonuses like creatine monohydrate, glycine, BCAA nitrates, and D-ribose, all of which have performance and recovery enhancing effects. Finally, there is a blend of protease, lactase, amylase, inuline, and fructooligosaccharides (FOS) for digestive health and nutrient absorption.

Each 95 serve of Iron Mass contains an impressive 485 calories, 40 g protein, 34 g carbs, and 21 g fat, of which only 1 g is saturated.

MusclePharm Arnold Series Iron Mass Effectiveness

Despite its serving size, Iron Mass packs an impressive calorie count, largely thanks to its extensive use of healthy fats. These calories are essential for building mass and gaining weight. Although it may not be the best mass gainer for ectomorphs, it would provide the majority of the population with an effective way to pack on some serious kilos. Iron Mass would be suitable for anyone ranging from beginners to advanced bodybuilders who are looking to add mass and bulk up.

MusclePharm Arnold Series Iron Mass Pros

Even with the massive number of weight gainers already on the market, Iron Mass has successfully separated itself from its competitors by using a highly unique, and even unusual list of ingredients. It has been said that Arnold himself was responsible for this concoction. To the best of our knowledge, Iron Mass is currently the only mass gainer on the market that uses hydrolysed beef protein (a very highly bioavailable protein source) as its primary protein source. The same can also be said for its carbohydrate and fat blend, which looks interesting to say the least.

Iron Mass is not a high carb weight gainer, and its serving size is a tad under 100 g. Despite this, it manages to pack in far more calories than compatitors of similar serving sizes. Generally, a serving of 100 g from the average weight gainer gives closer to 400 calories while Iron Mass manages to squeeze in closer to 500 calories. This is an solid point of difference and unique selling point for Iron Mass, afterall, not everyone likes having to slam down huge shakes just to meet their macros.

MusclePharm Arnold Series Iron Mass Cons

Amylase, inuline, and fructooligosaccharides in the Pro-Digest Blend definitely have their benefits. However the validity of a protease must be questioned. A protease is sometimes a good ingredient to help with protein digestion, but considering Iron Mass prodominantly contains hydrolysed (pre digested) protein, one must consider if a protease is actually needed. If a hydrolysed product does actually need protease, it says something about the degree of hydrolysis and hence quality of the protein. Likewise, due to the very low amounts of dairy in Iron Mass, why is lactase needed? It seems that these ingredients were put in just for the sake of putting them in, as it is now common practise with many American protein powders.

Another issue with Iron Mass is that because of its high fat content and slow digesting carbs, it can remain in the stomach longer than some other mass gainers. This isn't an issue if you are using it for a meal replacement, but if you are on a very high calorie diet, you may struggle to eat subsequent meals after downing a serve of Iron Mass.

MusclePharm Arnold Series Iron Mass Taste & Mixability

If one company can make a tasty protein shake, it is MusclePharm. Iron mass is no exception. In fact, it is one of the best tasting protein powders on the market, and possibly THE best tasting mass gainer. The texture is thick and genuinely creamy. The chocolate flavour smells and tastes like chocolate eclair and drinking some Iron Mass actually becomes the highlight of the day. Arnold would be proud to have his name on a product that tastes this good. There is also a distinct lack of chemical aftertaste, but because of the high fact content, it does leave your pallet a little oily. Mixability is smooth, though if you look hard enough, you can see the fat particles refusing to dissolve. Though this does not affect the texture.

MusclePharm Arnold Series Iron Mass Verdict

Iron Mass was one of the most anticipated mass gainers that has been announced. With its original blend of ingredients, high calorie density, absolutely delicious taste, and more than strong branding, it is sure to be a hit. Simply put, in our opinion, it is one of the best mass gainers to ever arrive in MZ.
